Getting Your Marriage License

  • Instead of closing at 5 p.m., the central site located at 3636 American River Dr. #110 in Sacramento, will stay open until 8 p.m. on Friday, February 14, for marriage licenses and ceremony services. Additional fees apply for services after 5 p.m., and appointments are required.

Plan Ahead​

Make an Appointment
  • ​​We encourage you to make ​an app​ointment to get your marriage license. You can also arrange for a civil marriage ceremony if desired. 
  • Due to occupancy limitations, please do not arrive earlier than 20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

Apply Online

  • ​​Save time​​​ by completing the application form ​online before visiting our office. Your completed application is stored for up to 60 days. 

Visit Our Office

  • To obtain a marriage license, you and your future spouse must appear together in-person at one of our office locations. You will need to complete the application form and present valid identification.
  • Acceptable forms of I.D. must provide photo and age verification.  These include:
    • Driver's license
    • Passport
    • Military I.D.
    • Resident Alien Card   

90-Day Validity 

  • Marriage license​​​​s are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance​.  If you do not get married within 90 days, the license becomes void and you must re-apply to purchase a new license.​​
